Elissa’s Story

Finding My passion: Helping Others Excel in their Careers

Throughout my 15+ year career, I have worked across multiple industries and functions and in each role, I have delivered a high quality product and superior customer service. Today, I focus my energy on sharing career management knowledge through one-on-one coaching of MBA alumni and students interested in transitioning or enhancing their careers.

My Career Transition

Like many of you, I am a career switcher. After graduating from my MBA program and working at what I thought would be my “dream job,” I felt something was missing. Through an intense process of self-reflection, I realized that I am most satisfied (and effective) when I am leveraging my problem solving and communication skills to help others achieve their goals. So I decided to change direction.

By leveraging my relationship building skills as well as my knowledge of the MBA experience and MBA recruiting, I landed the exciting role of a career advisor in the Wharton MBA Career Management office. I immediately knew this was the right change for me.

During my tenure at Wharton, I have conducted more than 1,500 individual coaching sessions and provided students encouragement and step-by-step advice and tools to achieve their goals. Whether devising personalized job search plans, creating compelling resumes, preparing for networking, practicing interviewing or providing feedback, my students rated me as a top advisor and praised my actionable advice, caring and approachable style, and, especially valued my commitment to their success.

Establishing EGH Career Coaching

After being contacted by many MBA alumni with whom I worked when they were students and who now wanted coaching on how to excel in an upcoming career transition, I jumped at the chance to re-engage with them and decided to start my own coaching business.

As a career coach, I am excited to learn about my clients’ unique backgrounds and stories. I take pride in encouraging clients to think about their situation differently by asking the unasked questions. I am excited to collaborate with clients to figure out how to brand themselves for a career switch and craft their networking pitch and interview stories. I am energized by seeing a client’s confidence increase as we talk about how to implement high impact job search strategies. And, of course, I always love hearing about the successes of my current and past clients!
